Looks like mercedes used to use some decent alloy in their pump housings, for the amount of cleaning you didnt do and the age of the pump theres not a lot of crap come out in the welds.
Good outcome.

Looks good man ! Some cast welds nicely and some not. Don't be surprised when you go to weld some other cast and it
just wants to become a bloddy mess . Congrats on the nice repair !

Thank you! It is really nice to get all of this feedback..
I have a 19" aluminum rim with a crack in it coming up..
it's been welded once before with a aluminumstick and it also needs a lot of pre-weld work..
Let's see how that goes

Nice job on the water pump - but please leave the wheel rim alone ! that's got bad news written all over it - unless it's used on a " res ride " at very low speeds & even then I'd not do it especially as someone has already botched it - legal implications for this outweigh any possible reason or price to attempt it.

Good advice. Pick your battles wisely. Yes you are right ! I did not even think about that...
It's my own rim and i'm going to try it out to see how it goes:) it's a beat up old thing and i want to try and weld something that needs preheat..
But thank you for the advice!!

EXACTLY! Perfectly said! I would have expected to see the oil boiling out! Maybe the part is relatively new?

It's a -78 original part:)
Owner called me after he put the part in.. He was really satisfied with fitment and there was no leakage:)
