Thanks Kym. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to sell the welder and quit. It seems like thicker material welds a bit better. This is .078 5052 with 5356 filler. The mounting tabs are thicker yet. John.

I see - thanks for sharing the specifics. I've had good results with 5356, too.

Because what I'm building is for race motorcycles, I'm afraid thicker material isn't an option. I'm always going to be aiming for as thin and as light as I can get. Steep learning curve!

This one. Possibly similar to the Everlast stuff available in the U.S. Loving the machine and the local service backup is brilliant. The weakest member of the team right now is definitely me.

Hey Kym! Is that a pic of you for your avatar? I used to roadrace a bit back in the Eddy Lawson, Wayne Rainey days, worked for the Keith Code Superbike School once a year in Elkhart Wisconsin in exchange for free classes. Me and my buddy were just 2 broke independants having fun....and staying broke....Old saying; if you want to make a small fortune in motorcycle racing, start out with a large one...oh so true

Yeah, the avatar pic is me alright. I still road race as much as I can afford to. The TIG welding I've taken up has a very direct link to my motorcycle obsession...it will help me repair, modify and build parts when I get good enough. Mind you...welding is heaps of fun in its own right! I just enjoy doing stuff that's useful, and welding is helping me do more of that.
