Two cans of "Why Bother" welded together?

You don't want people looking at that weld and thinking, "Why bother?"

Well, I apologized beforehand did't I :lol:

1.6mm 1.5% lanthanated tungsten (because this is the only 1.6mm I have :) ) ground to a point
No 5 cup with stubby gas lens
2.0mm 4043 filler
100Hz
60% negative
40A set max and used a foot pedal but never had to floor it.

I had another empty coke (light :lol: ) can which I have used to find my settings.

These things stink when welded. I had to stop and put on my ADFLO :?

Been a while since I welded up a steel frame. Been mostly brazing steel and welding aluminum since March. Nice getting back in the saddle.

Very nice Zank, my first thought was if the weld would distort the bottom tube enough to cause a problem with those threads on the ID, apparently not though

This might seem like an odd project but it was different so I thought I would post it. Our dog Rudy the beagle got hit by a car, we buried him and needed a headstone so I made one out of some 1/8 inch angle 304 stainless. First time I tried to write words by padding beads. I need practice at doing that never had to do it before. I should have cut a groove to follow would have made it easier to write words.

why use standard nozzles after gas lens where invented. Kinda of like starting fires by rubbing sticks together.

That is really cool. My dog is my best friend and I don't ever want to say goodbye to him but..I feel for you. That is an awesome tribute that will last forever.

@Zank those are some great fit ups. Nice to see someone take time to get perfect fit ups. Great prep work leads to outstanding products.

Someday I may add one of your frames to my road bike fleet. Hopefully even if you are one of the big name builders you will remember us poor and lonely welding pals and make a space on your closed by then waiting list (insert smiley of sad puppy with wet eyes).

WJH,the challenge is being a one man band. I wish I could just make frames, but all of the other business related stuff takes up a good portion of the week. I generally have 8-10 frames worth of work lined up at any one time. My goal is to make a frame and ship a frame each week. That works pretty well for me because I decided I needed to do a little better job on the work/life balance after our second son was born. I try my best to limit my work week to 45 hours and then do some work at night when the kids and the misses are sleeping. We brought number three (a little girl!) home last week, so now I'm even more focused on being as productive as I can be during my work hours and limit my work time at home to a minimum. Mostly because I need the sleep!
