Hi,

After a few hours playing with my new TIG, I tried a lap join. Here's the condition. Plate are 1/8". Cup #6, 3/32 2% Lanth, filler rod is 1/16" E70S-2, 140 amps with foot pedal control and 17 cfh for Argon.

I would like some input..

TIG is an Everlast 200DX.

Good job on grinding the steel down. Hate it when people ask why their tig welds are crummy and you see all this millscale flaking of from not having it properly removed.

Good size bead width, very little undercut on the top, bead spacing is a bit too wide for my tastes, but that's just me. If that were my bead, which it could very well be, I would try to feed in just a smidge more filler on each dab to try and cut down on the undercut, to see the result.

Thanks Oscar for the tips. I'm still trying to synchronize both hand for a good tempo, but looks like it
something to get with practice ! ;)

Here's an other try, same setup, inside and outside corner joint.. I'm still having problem with undercut.. Am I
running too hot ?

beads are less defined on the outside corner, but I dunno why..

Put on some rock music with heavy bass drum. Dip in time to the bass. AC/DC (the band Is good)

Hard to say if you're running too hot because you are likely modulating the current with the foot pedal so it always introduces variables. If you have too long of an arc length it is almost the same as dumping in too much heat. If you are within 1/8" you should be fine, but 1/16" would be better. Could just need to dab in more filler. Try things out one-at-a-time to see what works best, you will quickly figure out where the improvement needs to come from. 'Tis usually what I do :)

It's a Long Way to the Top is great, though the bagpipe solo makes for some funky welds :lol:

Good stuff. Once you get the fundamentals down, you can start messing around with amounts of filler and various other things.

Thanks !, yes it's getting better.. I tried to practice each day at least one hour..

I have time to time a problem that I can't pin point.. On a lap join, as example, I get a "C" shape
puddle.. As Jody say, I check the 3 things, and it keep coming back.. I try to tight the arc as much
as I can, while keeping a good angle, but looks like it's not always working the way i want !

Finally got around the last problems, now I'm laying beads !

Looks good from here, your making good progress quickly. This is just one of those things that comes from seat time to gain muscle memory, and learning to read the puddle
