irst time I've touched a tig welder since school in over 13 years I know it's pretty ugly but I can only get better with practice right! Any pointers or tips appreciated obviously the one on the right is the tig just practicing on some scrap

Other than "fill that concave end at the top", I see nothing wrong with that.

I've done worse when I've gone 13 WEEKS without a TIG weld...

Looking good, especially for someone who doesn't do it very often. Heck looks a lot better than a lot of the weld tests I have hiven lately. Keep practicing and you will be stacking dimes in no time.
