Tig welding tips, questions, equipment, applications, instructions, techniques, tig welding machines, troubleshooting tig welding process
This topic is a reminder to those of you who are welding in poorly ventilated areas. When welding with argon, be sure to have a fan nearby or even better, a fume collector to pull the argon away from you . This gas is extremely dangerous, can cause lung collapse and respiratory problems. As a matter of fact, it is more dangerous to breath in than the actual weld fumes. Generally, a fan placed in the opposite blowing direction in a well ventilated area is good enough to extract the residual gas from creeping under your mask. Though tig welding is considered a clean form of welding, there are always fumes and gases that manage to get under the mask while welding. Take really good care in avoiding breathing in these fumes. Remember safety first.
Well, argon is a "Totally" inert gas, I mean, is not toxic, or something like that, but it has a risk, is heavier than oxigen so in poorly ventilated areas it piles up and can cause death by asfixia. For the fumes, you can use a gas mask under the welding helmet
