I need to fix a cooking pot (handle broke off)
The pot is stainless but I have two thickness of metal
The handle is 0.075"
The pan is ~ 0.025" - 0.030"

As you can see the spot welds failed.

My dilemma is: I don't want to blast a hole thru the thinner walled pot

Should I drill my holes thru the thinner pot to weld to the handle and then blend the welds in?
OR
Should I drill thru the handle to connect to the pot?

TIA,
Ron

I'm a noob, but I would drill the handle and tack it to the pot. I'd put some tacks around the outside of the handle too. I'd start the puddle on the handle and try to walk it over to the pot. Not sure if this is good advice or not. Somebody with a lot more experience will respond soon.

An even easier/stronger repair is the drill the handle. Then mark and drill the pot. Stainless screws thru handle into pot. Weld the screw ends to the interior of the pot, after grinding them flush. Blend and polish to finish.

I would drill a few holes in the handle and then plug weld to the side of the pot. You may want to back purge to prevent sugaring. You can overfill the plug welds and blend them if you want.

Spot weld the holes and then weld around the outside a little. Quick and easy.
