Been given these to try. Anybody know what the frak they are? The Wolfram website says the 2% rare earth component is a secret. The tips are not blue, they are aqua marine like the label.
Have not tried welding with them yet.

Diamond ground apparently offers a version as well. Be nice to hear how it performs. I like thoriated but if this is as good but not radioactive then I’d spend the money.

still not revealing the trimix, probably a blend of cerium and tooth amalgam. I doubt if it as good as or better than 2% lanth which I use for everything. If it was that good everyone would be using it, but I'll give it a go with no expectations.

Knowing where you work, those electrodes would have had the s@#t scrutinised out of them before approving purchase and would have been procedure qualified before use. That says alot about it's quality. I'll try to do a comparison with 2% lanth.

Unfortunately, not true. I tried to bring in CK rare earth ones, but they had to have Blackwoods touch them first (not even joking) and they were too expensive, so we went to an off brand. I don't remember which one, but they come through Blackwoods, so you know they are bargain basement.

Did a trial on aluminium extrusion, no idea what grade.
200A on the peddle
balance 70%
frequency 80 Hz
5356, 3/32 wire
20 degree Sharpie grind on the electrodes, small flat on end

Procedure:
wire brushed and wipe down parent metal and wire
started the arc and hovered till shiny puddle emerged
added wire and mashed peddle for the rest of the way.

Results:
2% Lanth, stable arc no, wander, no crapping in the puddle, electrode barely balled up. Nice to use.

WS2, immediately shot the end of the electrode off into the puddle - yay. Arc was wandering a little at low amps but stable at 200A. Did not ball or disintegrate further after initial dump.

My Conclusion:
Not alot of difference, I preferred the Lanth but will use the WS2 up. Won't be spending money on it.
Nicer bead with the Lanth but that could be just me.
