I know that all welding processes need a gas sheild around the weld puddle to keep it protected for the atmosphere. In tig, I use argon for example. What then is the gas sheild in oxy-acetylene welding?
Also, can tig rods be used in oxyacetylene welding?

First of all , thanks for your participaton and no BS style here on the forum. You add a lot of value here.
I believe what happens in oxyfuel welding is that the oxygen gets completely burned up in the flame...so areas under the flame envelope are shielded.
trying to gas weld with an oxidizing flame does not work well and sometimes foams and bubbles.
a neutral flame ...when the cone has no feather, but no oxygen added after the cone defines itself...burns equal parts of fuel gas and oxygen.... Seems like I read all this a long time ago...sounds right anyway.
Tig rods can be used for gas welding but gas welding rods dont work well for tig.
