Welding Tips and Tricks

I'm currently going to welding school In Quebec, we got about a year left to the 16month course, after that I am planning in working in a fab shop for 2-4months and then going to high pressure welding course.I will be getting a welding machine this summer that does tig and stick (like most tig machines do.) And I wanted to track myself a thing or two before entering the course, so I wanted to know, is it hard to teach yourself open root welding for high pressure standards?(i will be getting the everlasting powetig 250ex, incase you need it as a reference)

Open root tog or stick? Not that hard either way. With tig remember to push on the rod to push the metal inside and only nip the edges. Stick is even easier. But with all welding, prep work is the most important.

No problem. Be sure to be back when you start up. Stick isnt as picky. And once you get the feel you can doing it while you're daydreaming.

Learning open root 6010 is far from 'easy'
It takes time,substantial effort and dedication,and just a little guidance.
the guidance can be provided by people on this forum if you dont have a dedicated instructor.its not ideal but doable.
eventually things fall into place and it becomes second nature.

Stick, practice in vertical up (actually easier, you can go a little slower)

TIG, Practice with both hands, it will pay off if you plan on doing pipe.
