This tip not for use during a test - when testing never re-start a rod.
When using 7018 while bench welding keep a chunk of 2X4 sitting on the bench. When you break the arc tap the rod on the 2X4 a couple of times. It will start easily when you start to re-use it.

i use the good old flick at the end of a run. Looks boss, but can take out eyes if around other people. Luckily I work alone most of the time.
