Inspectors and spatter, 6G

Im practicing downhill 6G. My filler/cover pass I am using 7010 rod. I am encountering quite a bit of spatter when I am finished. Its not sever but it is present, especially on the top of the pipe.

Will inspectors in the field have a policy against spatter? Is there any method of spatter control I could consider?

Along with that, what is the inspectors policy with grinding out the root before hot, fill, and cover pass? What is the inspectors policy on grinding the face of the pipe to rid the pipe of spatter?

Hit the spatter with a wire wheel. Whatever doesn't come off use the flat end of a chipping hammer. If thay doesn't work then get another hammer or piece of scrap and use the chipping hammer as a chisel to get it off. Spatter happens with stick but as long as you clean it when you're done you'll be fine.

If they allow you a grinder in the test, use it!

Ask for the WPS for the test weld. They have one. If they don't or won't give it to you, you probably shouldn't work for them.
