Hey guys, I'm currently in school and practicing pipe in the 2g position. I just finished my root and ground it out, now I'm wondering whether I should use a 6010 or 7018 rod for the hot pass?
I've watched a couple pipe tutorials on YouTube and some will use 6010 for the hot pass and others use 7018. But nobody explains why, or if one is better than the other. So which rod do you think is best for the hot pass?
Stick Welding Tips, Certification tests, machines, projects
Your wps should specify if it’s allowed to do a 6010 hot pass. If it’s not critical and it’s allowed I only do a 6010 hot pass on heavy wall (sch120) or if I’m in a hurry and I want to fill it out fast. 7018 hot pass will look cleaner and makes a sch 40 weld into a three pass weld.
I have more questions than answers
