difference between 6011 and 6013

Hello all, got a question. other than the fact that 6013's are suppose to be used on cleaner metals, isn't the tensile strength the same as 6011's, if I'm understanding the # designations? I keep hearing that 6013's are a shallower penetrating rod. Thanks

Tensile strength is the same, deposition rate is very different. 6013 can be used with AC current.

So can 6011's. 6010s are DC only though. Arc characteristics with flux coatings changes everything

Yep, pardon me, misread that original post.

Different flux, and Amp setup, 11 needs to run hotter than 13; 13 is good for thinner works

6013s were originally designed for sheet metal actually. 6011s are AC 6010s. As you said, 6011s weld better on dirty steel. 6011s tend to burn in better than 6013s as well. On more of a chemical side, you can see the chemical difference here- http://www.harrisproductsgroup.com/en/P ... rodes.aspx

As you see on the website, the tensile strength rating is approxamite-6013s are lower than the 60,000 and 6011s are higher than the rating. The 60 just represents an approximation not a perfect reading of strength.

6011 - fast freeze, deep digging, aggressive arc, rougher bead appearance, digs through rust and paint.
1/8" runs good about 75-100 amps, even up to 125 amps vertical down and some other instances.

6013 - fill/freeze, less aggressive, smooth bead appearance, clean steels are better.
1/8" runs good about 115-135 amps

thanks everyone for responding. just want to be sure about which rod to use.
