Well, I got a job rearranging a cooling app to get some valves fitted, this is 12" (323,4mm) x 9/32" (7.1mm) Pipe carbon-steel. No wps, no xray.

Hired with me a good friend of mine which works in a workshop here.

We were giving it a few shots earlier today, since its been a while since I`ve stick welded pipe, usually run tig, I figured I might aswell go with stick in this case.

We were determined that root pass and cap were the way to go, running 7018 Oerlikon Spezial 3/32" (2,5mm) (which is standard issue here, Norway).

What we discovered was that welding the 10" (274mm) x 1/4" (6,3mm) pipe we did actually manage to fill it up in one string pretty easy with a decent root and a flush-but-ok cap, and no undercut.

Now, Is there any problem running like this, considering there is no weave, just string, pretty hot, but as far as I can see the slag falls off by itself, and It all looks decent to me.

Problems regarding strength or some other properties?

All welcome,

thanks, Fron!
