We are in a situation where we need flat pad eye's placed on inside of cone that is setup at a 45 degree angle. We have a 10 ton cap or more, but I cannot seem to remember how (if I ever knew how) to place a good bead at that overhead/vertical up travel...? Does anyone on here have any recommendations on the rod angle. I have the machine set at 160ish amp for 5/32 7018, im leaning towards more of trying to weave it if I can without too much crowning and not being able to flatten out.
So remember that are O.D. section is actually the 45 degree and the I.D. is 135degree which is the incline 45 degree that needs padeyes.

Amps sounds about right. You have to split whatever angle it is in half; if a 120 degree included angle for your iron, then your work angle needs to be about 60 degrees. Watch your travel angle; keep that about 5 to 15 degrees. You have to position yourself where you can see directly into the puddle. The first time I did a joint like you are talking about (I think it was in about 1985), with 5/32 rod, I didn't do so well. I understood how to do the 1/8", but that larger rod threw me. And then the boss threw me, right off the job. Oh well. For me, I would also use a 'Z' weave; snap the rod through the middle, hold the toes to fill in the undercut and insure your penetration. It is not easy! If it were, it would pay the same as flipping burgers!
