Would you guys be interested if I make some videos about stainless welding?
I am planning to do so, but I am not sure if someone was interested in that kind of videos.I was planning to do a vertical uphill video on a plate and then some of those 2mm pipes welded in different positions.

Tell me would you like to see something like that. :) Stick welding those of course.

Ok, so here is a video. Stainless pipe welded in the easiest position possible 1g rolling downhill.

Some parts of this video is bad and you cant see things very well, but after all this is the first video we have made..

That is awesome. What grade of stainless, what make and size of electrode, current and polarity? I've tried to stick 3mm 316 before and it was all I could manage not to burn through.

This is 316 stainless, welded with Esab ok 63.20 E316-L
Electrode size is 2,5mm. I think its 3/32 at american standard
Dcep. You know we use hand remotes here, so I have absolutely no clue about the amperage. :D Really I dont even care about it. When you watch that clip you notice those terminations of welds?
I turn my remote down there, my welding machine wont go below 10 amperage, so the arc burns still, but no molten metal is transformed anymore. I terminate my stainless welds this way always, so I dont get that nasty hole at the end of the weld. There is always a danger of leaving that hole on the root and then it wont pass x-ray. But when you slowly cool your the end of the weld with your arc, there wont be no hole.

Are you rolling the pipe with one hand and holding the stinger with your other hand?
I'm guessing your doing it with one pass, root-fill-and-cap all in one pass?

Yes I hold my stinger in my right hand and my thumbwheel remote in my left hand.
With my left hand I also turn the pipe.
And yes everything comes at the same time, root, fill and cap.
This is a lot faster way then tig welding, and no purge gas needed. A damn lot of stainless pipe is welded this
way in paperfactorys etc. around here.

It didnt came out as good as I wanted it, but I think it still goes.
If I have some spare time tomorrow I but a surface bead on that one, hopefully it will look better..

Hey those welds are great!
You got the plate really hot, If you didn't have your remote that weld would of been a mess!
The main reason, and I'm sure you know, is that stainless gets really hot, really fast.
There's no way to control the puddle. Do you happen to have a picture of you remote set-up?

Yes, with this kind of plate you must have remote.
We use it here all the time when we weld with stick. It has come so natural to us, that welders here
cant even think living without it. It aint just a fancy toy, it is a really helpfull
thing to have, and it makes stick welding far more usefull method.

That must take a lot of skill to run the remote with your left hand.

Well it is tricky first, in welding schools here they usually start to train you to use it immidiatly.
Becouse here we use only 7018 rods, so pipe welding is difficult without remote. (I mean with black steel ofcourse)
So we start to train early and it comes a natural part of welding. Its really easy to use when you learn it.

And yes I can adjust current while welding, that is how it´s used

So what about it? He has some very old school type of remote I see. :D
I can adjust amperage while welding, so its same kind of a remote, that one just dont look so "handy" to me. :)

Ok, I got ya.
Your remote looks a little more user friendly, compared to the one in the video.
But, Do you think those remotes could be found to put on a different machine, as I'm sure they don't make those remotes for all welders.

They can be used on different machines, they just put a piece in your machine that makes it fit to the remote.. I dont know how to say it correctly, I aint a native english speaker youknow. :/

But I have seen these very same remotes on Esab and Fronius machines. They work as well on those ones then they do on kemppi.
This kemppi style remote is best I know, Esab makes own remotes also, they are pretty good, but still not the same as kemppi made.

Can you do some 7018 open root videos?
If you could get some good, clear arc shots, they'd be a huge eye opener for some of us guys.
