I finally bought one of these 3 or 4 months ago.
It's about 3/16" thick, so will fit in pretty much any helmet....
Arc color is an amber shade, and is really a good shade for seeing.
I've used it for mig (hard wire), stick (6010/7018 etc) duelshield, and aluminum mig.
Has never flashed me.
I've been welding in a lot of tight, poor visibility places, and it has stayed consistent.
Highly recommend.
I know, I've been a long time defender of fixed shade lens, but really, it's the 21st century.
Some jobs are just plain and simple easier with AD....

John,
That's a good price to have 5 stars across 70 reviews!
I'll have to dig for a 4 1/2 X 5 version. Hell, I might change centuries at a price-point like that.

I knew it was humor. And I got a chuckle out of it.weldin mike 27 wrote:Sorry, it was a poor attempt at humour. It failed.
I just wasn't sure if you had seen the thread and knew the purpose of that pipe and wood.

Hi Guys
So... I got the Arc One AD lens that goes to a shade 11
http://www.amazon.com/ArcOne-S240-11-2- ... op?ie=UTF8
This one lens was $110. I bought it to use in my pipeliner hood.
First things that I found was that when I try to use it with TIG.. it flashed you good.
Ok, I am going to cut it some slack because TIG welding on the lighter materials uses so little current the sensor would have a hard time sensing the arc
Tried it with MIG
Getting flashed on every time that I start the arc as well. Tried this with the MIG machine set up for 1/8" materials
Hummmmmm
Yet I see that the closest relative ( which costs 1/2 of the price of the shade 11 unit ) seems to get consistent 5 star reviews
http://www.amazon.com/ArcOne-T240-10-Tr ... +darkening
Has anyone else had this experience?

I Love it. Can't comment on the higher priced one, but I would hope it would be better. I guess not.

Perhaps, Adam, you received a defective one?
I'd think, if you're dissatisfied with it, I'd contact the company and arrange an exchange. It's not a bad product until two of them are bad....

Well I got my lens that goes to shade 10.5 in the mail today
I charged it up in the summer sunshine this afternoon
I'll give it a run this weekend , and if it's night and day better than the edition that darkens to 11 I'll call the company and ask for an exchange or check-out return shipping authorization
Side note
Does anyone here use the shade 10.5 with a slightly darker lease on the inside of the hood like a shade 1?

I knew a guy who used a shade 9 fixed lens, and when he wanted darker he'd where dark safety glasses with it. These can be found as dark as equivalent to shade 3 (though I've never seen them labeled that way) for about shade 12 welding.

The welding inspector at my work wears a shade 9 by itself for his full time arc watching
That always spooked me about messing up my eyes for good
