I am trying to get into the sheet metal union and was wondering if anyone knows what certification tests i would have to take in order to weld on sheet metal?

sheet metal workers weld ducting and all sorts of sheet metal but they also weld the supports that hold the ducts so it could be a sheet metal test , a thick plate test, or both and it you will probably be required to take different tests for every different job you work that requires certification.

that said, some unions have entry tests that allow you to enter an apprenticeship with credit up the payscale as time served.

the best way to find out is to call the local union.

also there is an organization called Mechanical Trades Institute in several locations that trains welders for the unions. Cajun Seeger is the director in Lithia Springs and you can probably get an answer by calling
