Hello all I am taking a common arc test on 2" pipe heavy wall 6g..no problem right??? Well on this test I cannot move my torch at all I have to dead stick it no walking the cup have to freehand it, problem is on the bottom of my weld I have some questions, I don't know if I should turn my Machine up when I go at the bottom and I'm getting a less than flush bead on the inside, should I widen my gap or just add more rod, btw I have to keyhole this it's for the union I dun know if I should use a small land or what please help

Wow.

The tough thing is about union hall certs is, you have to do things the way they do them, or alot of time they will kinda thumb their noses up at you.

On the landings, when I was in the UA, I was taught to use a 1/16 Landing(they called it a razerblade landing), formed almost like a j-bevel, and 1/16 or no gap.

In my experience with the overhead pipe welding, turning the heat up on the overhead section always helped me out alot.

I know it's not much, but I hope it helps a little bit.

Is this UA weld test using API downhill?
