I'm in the market for a mag drill, what's the best bang for the buck these days? Not much of a used market around here so I'll probably end up buying new.

I ran 50 holes last week with a Milwaukee cordless magdrill. A great machine

I bought a little EVO MAG 42 a few months ago, and it has worked well for my needs.
Very affordable and dependable!

I just purchased a evolution as well and I am very happy with what I got for the money. It's substantially less expensive compared to most out there.

I would definitely check out the Evolution line. They make a couple different sizes.

What are you using your mag-drill for? Tapping? Countersink? If just for drilling holes, how big, how often and where? Will you be in the shop, on the jobsite, or both?

Bought im about 15 year ago when all I could afford was the cheapest chinese POS I could find. I've bashed the POS around for all that time on pipes, plate and beams and never missed a beat. Largest cutter I use is 40mm (1-1/2"). Thickest plate I've cut is 20mm (3/4").
The plastic fluid bottle cracked up pretty quick so made one up from staino, all good.
I love this mag drill and wouldn't change it for an expensive branded one.

You have options.

I just checked up on it, it's actually Taiwanese made which explains the good quality.
Here's a link to their website, you can check if they are available in your area:

I'll mainly use it for drilling. I end up doing quite a bit of fabricating where I can't get the pieces on my press. I'm tired of breaking drill bits while using my hand drill. I borrowed my buddy's Evolution and had a hard time giving it back...

I think he had a 1/2" chuck for it, but we were using annular cutters.

I have a DeWalt magdrill and have been very happy with it. Bought it from the Mac Tools dealer that comes to the shop for just under $800. It has earned it's keep in the couple years I've had it.
