I'm working on fabricating a tree stand and the type I like has a rod with a fine point to dig into the tree. I have a torch and bench grinder but grinding takes longer than I like. Is there a way to make the point without a lathe?

Solid bar square stock. Use a cut-off wheel to make tapered ends on all 4 sides. Round over edges if you feel like it. Done.
