Welding Tips and Tricks

Hi All
My name is Keith from Brooklyn NY and have been interested in learning how to weld and am about ready to purchase my first welder but the choices out there are daunting. Anyhow I have been watching Jody's welding videos for a long while now and find what he does fascinating and have learned a lot from his videos. I hope I don't drive everyone crazy because i will be asking a lot of questions and seeking guidance especially with my 1st welder purchase. Looking forward to meeting you all on the board.

Thanks Dlewis. Which process is a difficult decision, since I have some repair work outside (Wrought iron fences) Flux Core and Stick would be suitable for this, I really like the way Tig looks and would love to use this process for fabricating. I was looking at 2 multi process machines which allow me to use each of the processes the 1st one being the Lincoln Power Mig 210 MP and the other is the ESAB Rebel 215ic, I'm leaning towards the ESAB Rebel. What would you recommend?

Welcome to the forum Keith.

Kind of hard to answer....lot a variables, cost. For your outside work stick and your TIG work a Dynasty would fit the bill nicely for reasonable portability. People will tell you, you can run a voltage sensing wire feeder with it but DON'T listen to them, buy a separate little CV machine for your MIG needs.

Unless you need quasi production style welding, I wouldn't even worry about MIG.

But always remember with the suitcase welders, pay close attention to duty ratings.

Honestly I have never used either of the welders you listed, but I bet there is a review on them here somewhere, I'm sure one of the old timers on here will point you to them.
