Hey all! Been watching Jody for a while with his welding tips on YouTube. Great information I'm here to gain skills in tig welding. Not so much for a career but for all my little projects I do. I love to modify cars but mig welding is great for some stuff but things like exhaust headers it's the bomb when you know ho to use it. Me well I'm just learning tig did awesome on carbon steel building a welding cart. But as for stainless I'm struggling, I had tried tonight to tack pieces together while mocking up the header about .060 wall tubing 50 amps using gas lense setup. I didn't use any purge in the pipe thought it would be ok for tacking but I just burned holes in the pipe. I guess it's back to the videos to learn more about my mistakes....

Welcome, Mrfreeze,

The trick that works for me tacking that thin SS, is to use a lot more amps... I'll lay the tip of the rod right where I want the tack, and hit it with 150A for less than a 1/4 second.

Different strokes for different folks, but you might give it a try.
