I am an old guy (65) and find that perhaps I will have more time to do projects. I learned to weld in my teenage years using Oxy-Acetylene, then progressing to Arc. Years later MIG became the primary tool for years. About 30 years ago a friend let me play with his TIG machine a little bit and I was amazed at the welds. I have never really needed TIG but have always had dreams of welding Stainless and Aluminum. I think an old dog can learn new tricks but I am at a loss regarding equipment. Should I try and adapt my Powermig 300 or purchase another standalone machine? I welcome all suggestions. (except that I'm too old)

Thanks,
Don

Welcome to the forum. If your powering 300 still runs keep her going. Of you need another one later on then do that. Maybe you'll want to pick up a tig machine to. And there is no such thing as to old to weld especially at only 65.
A student now but really want to weld everyday. Want to learn everything about everything. Want to become a knower of all and master of none.

Welcome Don.

Old? My Dad's 85 and has just finished welding up a trailer. It won't win him any awards, but it's strong enough!

Hi Don, welcome to the forum.
Your Powermig300 is and very nice power source, capable of mig, dc stick and dc tig processes.
For tig, this means welding of steels and stainless steels. If you want to tig aluminium, you will need an ac/dc tig power source.
You can always mig aluminium in the meantime.
Cheers,
Vic.
