I just got into welding with an 80amp DC stick welder from Harbor Freight. I am working on a scratch start tig conversion for the cheap-o commie buzz box and my very ambitious goal (for my skill level and equipment) is to put a roll cage in a project car over the course of the coming year as my skills progress. I've watched a ton of the welding tips and tricks videos - excited to be part of the community.
Currently Welding with:
Chicago Electric (aka Harbor Freight) 80 AMP DC Stick Welder
w/ Scratch Start Tig Conversion

Welcome, Joe,

That machine, frankly, is not one that you would want to learn "stick" on (you will learn the meaning of "stick"... ), but converted to TIG might well be capable of what you seek to do.

Let us know how you progress, and ask any questions that come up as you go.
