I've been a welder for 29 years now, and I still learn new things all the time. This is why I have joined this forum. I was a DOD aircraft certified TIG welder for 9 1/2 years on Inconel, Hastelloy and some other super alloys for jet engine compressor parts. If you were on an airplane with a GE jet engine, or a helicopter with a GE turbine engine in the late '80s and '90s then there were probably parts in the engines that I welded. I'm now a toolmaker in the same jet engine plant, and I do most of the welding for the tool room. There is a lot that I still don't know, so I'm hoping that I can get answers here. I really enjoy the welding tips and tricks youtube videos. They have helped me be a better welder.

Welcome, gear head,
There's every avenue of welding to explore here, including artistic things that might occupy one in his retirement.
There's mastery in every craft, as well.
I'm sure, with your experience, you'll be able to contribute as much as you take away.

gear head,
Welcome to the forum.
We will probably pick your brain more than you do ours. 29 years doing anything, even if you're doing it wrong, you have surely learned things that will help others here shorten the learning process. We look forward to what you can contribute and hope you learn somrthing in the meantime.
I don't fly all that often, but when I do I often think to myself, "I hope they hire the best and brightest at this airlines", then I remember that my wacky neighbor growing up works on jets and I get a little sick in the stomach.
