CanMoulder,
Sorry I'm late to the party...
Welcome!
While in college I took an industrial class in plastics, and one of my projects was an injection mold. it was a single-part mold for a machine knob in ABS with a knurled handle and 1/4-20 threads cast in. (Our injection "machine" was a manual press with a 4 oz. capacity). I got an "A" on that one... We did several other projects, including a blow-mold, but the injection mold was my favorite.
That summer break I worked in a plastics processing plant, doing exclusively vacuum-forming, the only major process not covered in my class, so all in all I got good schooling in thermoforming plastics that year.
I learned aluminum spool-gun welding there, repairing vacuum molds, and taught them some trick in machining and redneck engineering.
I look forward to what you can contribute from a mold-maker's perspective.
