Hello everyone,
I am new to this forum and new to welding in general. I had a mig welder years ago and traded it off in a tractor trade... should not have done that as it was a very nice little mig. Now I currently have a piece of crap 80 Campbell Hausfeld but it has helped me when I needed it. I just purchased my first ever Stick welder, the Hobart 235 AC/DC and I absolutely LOVE it... just learning how to use it is the most fun. All those settings and not having an idea what the hell I am doing is really putting me in a "learning" phase. I also just purchased a Longevity ForceCut 80i plasma cutter that is supposed to cut 1.5" severance and 1.25 all day long. I can't wait till that puppy gets here to help me play some too.
My background is actually very diverse, I was in a military combat unit overseas until I was injured and that was over 20 years ago. I was in an Armor Battalion, initially we had M60A3 and then converted to the then newest tank on the battlefield and of course I am speaking of the M1A1 Abrahams. I went to college for computer programming and ended up having more fun doing tech/admin work with servers and customers. I loved working for Sprint and Amazon.com to name a couple.
Now, I am medically retired and I am bored to death. I have a small (26 acres) piece of land (farm) in southern Ohio and I am now wanting to build a few things and have some fun. I enjoy several different hobbies, they include; Photography (Nikon D7000), Metal Detecting (Etrac), Coin collecting (Amateur Numismatic), Automotive mechanics, R/C Airplanes (dormant hobby), farming, computers, cooking (smoking ribs primarily and BBQ) and more but I would have to say that my favorite is riding around on either one of my 2 Suzuki Hayabusa's... travelling is also on my list as I lived abroad until recently. Europe was awesome and I highly recommend you go see it on your bucket list, I speak, read and write German and I highly recommend you learn a second, third or fourth language as it will enlighten you. I would now like to learn Spanish and find me a cute little senorita!
So, enough about me.. lets talk welding as I have a TON of questions and need INPUT... LOL
Happy Welding (HW)!

Welcome, Crazy Carl,
Another interesting resume'! A diverse history does so much to help people "connect the dots" when a project requires several skills.
I don't think I've put mine up here, but I have to be very selective when I assemble a resume'. I've worked 24 different jobs in 8 distinct fields, which makes me a "job-hopper", which turns off most employers. I get bored when I've learned all an employer can or will teach me, and I move on. Been at my current job almost 5 years, though. I finally found a job that uses almost everything I already know, and is unlikely to ever run out of things to learn or opportunities to advance myself.
BTW, your closing line sounds like a welder's version of an old aviation joke...
