Hello forum. I have been welding for 13 years. I taught myself how to run a bead with TIG, MIG, and stick. I started out at a food processing plant welding stainless, and now I weld carbon steel only. Because I never had anyone to teach me how to weld properly, I feel like I'm just starting. Although I am very comfortable with TIG, its been 8 years since I've used stick. I'm trying 6011 on DC+ and running 6" beads for practice.
During these trial runs, my stick just stops burning mid weld, what could I be doing wrong. I'm using 1/8" rods @ 105-115 amps on 1/4" steel.

Thanks for the welcome. John....I bought the rods 4 days ago from Atwood's(its a farmers store). I'm welding with 7018's with no problems whatsoever. I'm using a Miller Maxstar 150 on 220v. The 6011 strikes an arc fine and sometimes I can burn a whole rod without any hiccups, but on the next rod it might stop burning 3 times. Would rod angle have anything to do with it? Thanks for the help.

The rods I'm using are Hobart.
