Thanks for such cool forum. I'm a millwright by trade and hold 2 6G certifications currently. One for 300 series schedule 5 stainless pipe 1" and up. The other is carbon schedule 40 pipe 1" and up to .985 wall. I'm always looking for ways to improve my skills and gain some finesse. I found that when testing for the 6G, sometimes "good" is good enough in order to get qualified. The application of the qualification in the field has allowed me to get better over the years. The problem is when you work at one location for so long, you miss the opportunity to learn from others. This looks like a good place to absorb some of that knowledge. Jody's vids are awesome!
Thanks again
Harold

Hey Mate,
Welcome to the show. Lots of our members are after info on small bore pipe, so no doubt you'll be able to chime in soon.

Cometose,
Welcome to the forum! I want to go for my 2" sch 80 tig cert. I would like you to start a thread on your 1" pipe test.

That'd be great! Is there anything in particular I need to do to start the thread? I've always gone to forums when I'm in need of info. I've never been part of one. BTW, the 6G test(s) I took were on 2" sch 160 carbon. That qualified me down to 1" and up diameter. I'm limited to something less than 1" thickness. I can get the particulars on Wednesday. I'm at home doing Honeydo's today and tomorrow. Also, is it possible or OK to post pictures here? I'd like to get some input on how I can improve my weld appearance. The bones are there. I just want them to look better.
Thanks,
Harold

Hey, Welcome! Harold,
Starting a topic is simple... Since this is apparently about TIG welding, go to the TIG welding subforum, and just click the "new topic" button, top left on the screen. The easiest ways to start a conversation are to ask a question, or post some pictures for critique.
As for posting pictures, there are two methods. You can upload them directly to the forum (250KB limit per upload, so you're pretty much stuck with e-mail size photos, usually up to three to a post) in a semi-complicated process. Or you can use hosted images. If you have pictures on Tinypic, Photobucket, Walgreen's photo gallery, etc., etc... anyplace where you can copy IMG code, you can just paste the code in your post. This way, you can post high resolution images.
The process to upload directly is: when writing the post, scroll down below the "submit" button. You'll see "options" and "upload attachment". Click "upload". Click "browse", and select an image from your computer. Click "add the file". When upload is complete, click "place inline" and the image code will show up wherever your curor is in the message you're writing. Then adjust placement as needed.
Be aware there is an ultimate limit to how much each member can upload directly, so I highly recommend using a hosting site and the IMG code to link to it.

I honestly don't know. I just know at least two of us have hit it. A PM to Admin got it extended, but I don't know how much.
Now that I'm accustomed to how tinypic works, and pasting the IMG code in my posts, it's much simpler, and nearly limitless on e-mail format (460X680) images. It also allows me to post the occasional high-resolution image when there's some fine detail to see.

I am sure I will be the next one to hit it. I will look into the other hosts while I have the chance.
