I just started TIG welding. My first project was to build a bench so that I could get off of the garage floor. I was using 35mm square tubing and was having quite a tough time. I was melting holes through or producing horrible looking welds. It wasn't obvious what was wrong until the sun got lower in the sky behind the house. My problem was so much light coming into the back of the welding helmet that was making it too hard to see what I was doing. Remember that if you can't see the puddle, you can't weld worth a hoot.

Hey,

Welcome. This is quite true, You will see many welders with a flap of flame proof cloth or leather attached to the back of their lids for this reason.
