Hey guys,
Big fan of Jody's videos. Currently attending a technical school to learn welding. I've always wanted to weld, specifically anything using TIG. I just wanted to say hello, and show a bit of progress. I realize i've got a long way to go, but be nice please it's my first post lol. I struggled alot with 6010 roots, Favored one side or the other a lot, some bad restarts along the way making me fail my bend tests. You can't fail any pieces, and you only get to bend 4. Today I finally passed my 6g pipe! So i moved onto Tig!

Just a couple welders and a couple of big hammers and torches.

We are learning on machines with a dig setting. I was having a lot of problems with the 6010's sticking, so I'd have to turn the welder up to 80ish amps. By the time I was halfway through my rod, It was too Hot, getting a lot of porosity, and just melting and blowing holes all over. I found by setting my welder to 60 amps, dig at 100, I could slow down and really watch everything that was happening with the root pass without sticking. From there, It was just lots of time behind the hood. I know one thing, If I don't make it as a welder, I damn sure will be a great pipe fitter for someone, You get tired of grinding bevels and test pieces lol.
Edit: Also, The "Whip and Pause" motion helped a lot. I saw it on a video on youtube, I think it was from ChuckE2009.
