So I've been perusing here for a while and I've finally decided to join.

I'm currently enrolled in the Welder's Qualification course at my local community college; currently working on 3g 3/8" plate 7018. I have a question about that later.

I have also been a Tig welder in the semiconductor industry for about the past 3 months. Most everything I weld at work is austenitic stainless steel, with some orbital. Prior to this I started out Mig welding fire protection systems (sprinkler pipe) on carbon steel and galvanized pipe. Not pipe welding, but welding outlets on pipe. I've also done some architectural welding/fabricating before that, but just as some help. Total, I've been employed as a welder for about a year.

I bought a Miller Syncrowave 210 not too long ago just to be able to weld some in my studio apartment; obviously not stick welding. I'd like to be a well rounded welder, and eventually, become a welding inspector, or perhaps an instructor, or both. Oddly enough I took an inspection class last semester, but decided that I wanted more hood time. Having said that, I do have a current copy of the AWS D1.1 Structural Steel Welding Code and can navigate it fairly well; got it all kinds of marked up. I'm also a student member of the AWS.

I'm mostly here to learn, but I can also offer some advice based on my limited experience/knowledge. Though take what I say with a grain of salt and a shot of whiskey.

welcome to the forum ;)
Just a couple welders and a couple of big hammers and torches.

Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it.

Welcome, Mongol,

If you've been lurking a while, I don't have to explain the forum to you.

Your questions, and your answers, are equally welcome!

Thanks, guys.

I know some things, and would be more than willing to assist in my limited experience, but I don't claim to be an expert in anything.

Mongol, it's not so much that there are experts here, though there are a few, in their areas.

It's that the whole bunch of us, together, are "the expert".

Any question will get a dozen good answers, and the one you need will be either one of them, or a combination of several of them.

Welcome to the show...

Ah. The minds of the many out weigh the minds of the few.

And the name is Jonathan. Mongol is a nickname, obviously.
