For racing i have done some tandems
For fun we built a good bit of junkyard wars rules triples and tandems with one rule you had to find everything from the garbage

The tandems are made from a mix of .035 wall chrome moly tubing and tandem specific oval tubes as weight is not as much of factor
All my road frames are made from Columbus Nivacrom EL ( extra light ) and the material is sold in a complete set to build one frame
The EL tubes are triple butted with .027 ends and most of the tube is .015 wall for light weight and it is about twice the strength of chrome moly BUT it is really easy to screw it up
The first time you pick up a piece of material it is shocking how light it is compared to the same thing in .035
When they were building the Concord they developed a special new steel for landing gear parts ( Nivacrom) and Columbus ending up with the bicycle end of it
I build everything with a oye acetylene torch and a thin flux free bronze brazing rod as you need to flux before you heat
I use a torch because i like the look of fillet brazing and i am good at it as the metal is so thin
All of my TIG work is on really thick material so it is hard for me to dail back to .027 wall
