It's nice to find an actual FORUM related to welding. It appears there are some "regulars" here to offer suggestions or experienced advice.
I started out "welding" sometime in high school when my brother-in-law showed me how to weld with oxy/acetylene... coat hangers of course. What a terrible mess! I did find some weird coated rods laying around... brazing rods. I found I could do some reasonably good repairs by brazing. It was nearly twenty years later when I made an effort to practice welding with gas. There have been a lot of mower and tractor implements built or repaired since.
I worked here for 30 years as tool designer and have always been close to the machine shop and welders. I was fascinated with TIG and finally purchased an Arccaption TIG200P AC-DC in Feb 2024. Now this is a learning experience!
I hope to add some entertainment to the forum. ---Trip
