Currently living in South Florida.
Not a welder. Currently doing research to help make a decision on a first machine.
Primarily want to learn as a hobby, but hoping it may lead to more.
TIG/microTIG and laser are the welding "genres" I'm most interested in.

welcome.

sounds like your after a tig machine.
good thing is most tig machines can be used as a stick welder.
learning stick welding is the first thing. that will teach you the basics. then onto tig.

if your interested in aluminium welding then you will need an ac/dc tig welder.
tweak it until it breaks

Welcome. I agree with tweake. Do stick welding with both hands and after you burn a couple hundred pounds, it will forge your muscle memory to have very steady hands for TIG.

Laser machines are awesome, but there more of a high end / specialty thing. Most ones I’ve been around were for people who were welders long before they got a laser.
I have more questions than answers
