Hi guys,
I love this forum and all of videos and podcast that Jody has done. I got into welding about 18 years ago when I wanted to get a platform built in a fountain to keep my kids safe. The fountain is about 15 ft diameter, semi-circular and 4 ft deep. I wanted a grate/ platform that was about 6 inches below the surface so if the kids fell in, they wouldn't drown. The quote from the local fab shop was $2500 for the build. At the time, Miller was doing a promo for a Millermatic 250 with Spool gun for $1800. I got the package, made a grate frame out of aluminum with expanded metal top, so I think I came up on top of that deal - maybe!
I fell in love with welding and expanded to oxy-act. I built a welding cart and a few other things, then put it all aside for about 15 years - travel ball, dance, etc.
Now, the kids are off to college and I'm getting back into old hobbies. I'm trying to absorb all the info online, 18 years ago there was nothing! You guys have more welding knowledge in tips your fingers than I do, but I'm trying to learn!
Anyway, Hello and you guys are great.
Dr. Joe - 55 year old geek.
BTW, I pulled the grate out about 5 years ago - it did it's job
