Just came across this site, and it looks neat. I am a full time radio engineer and own a small fab/prototype business I started in 2001. I build just about anything in my shop from vaults/storm shelters to custom accessories for power sports.

How did you get started in your business?

My father owned his own construction company and I was on jobs with him at 5 years old. Over the years I learned so much from him, as he knows everything... or so it seems.
I just always enjoyed welding from a young age, I love solving problems and creating something from raw materials. People saw this and had me make them all sorts of things, usually from a crazy idea. I enjoy the challenge, and just kept on.
As my family grows I see myself working from my home shop in the coming years so I can too spend more time with the family and teach my girls how to build and fabricate. I take vacations to my shop, next week I have off from the full time job and will add on to the shop and work on a new welding table.

Nice.
I put up some lettering at my buddy's auto repair shop advertising aluminum welding and took it back down two weeks later because I needed $$$ and had to take my tig machine to the pawn shop. Now he's pissed at me because he has a ton of people needing my service and neither one of us are making any money from it.
I just got a truck driving job where I'll be working 4 days on with 4 days off. I'll have my stuff out of pawn soon and can get started on side work then.
I'm always interested in hearing how people got their business ideas up and running.
I'm glad that you found us here, brother. It's nice to have you aboard.

Bummer to hear about that bud, I believe everything will work out the way its supposed to with some added bumps in the road. I've had my share for sure. Just kept pressing on and set a plan in motion. I set a 36 month plan to be done with my full time job and I am 8 months in. People think I am crazy for wanting to leave my job. You have to do what makes you happy, to be happy. One day at a time!!
Thanks for the Welcome sir!

I think that anyone who wants to have a "job" as opposed to working for their own self is crazy. I understand the security aspect of that approach but having a boss really sucks. Doing what you "want to do" as opposed to doing what you merely "have to do" is awesome!
I know from having been on both sides of that fence. To each his own, I guess.
