Good afternoon,
Name is Scott Morris. I live in Pembroke Pines Florida. Married with two kids grown and gone. I am a pilot for a living but more importantly built a chopper and am now building a hot rod. Have never known how to weld but have always wanted to learn. Being the stubborn type, I am trying to teach myself by watching youtube videos. Hopefully I can learn form this form as well as show what I do learn to help others....

Welcome, Scott,
This a great place to learn, and a fun place to be. Unlike most of the welding forums I've seen, you can actually post any weld here, no matter how jacked-up it is, and expect an honest analysis without some jerk telling you to "give up now". We've got people at all levels, including (and I've seen something very much like this) "I plugged it in. Now what?" right up to aerospace, and everything in between. We have hobbyists, artists, production guys, specialists, instructors, etc.
I'm always impressed with a homebuilt aircraft. I have a few sets of plans that I've never acted on. When I had time, I had no money, and vice-versa. I'm a fixed-wing guy, though. What scared me away from rotorcraft was also the most impressive damn thing I ever saw. I witness an auto-rotate emergency landing right on the south edge of downtown St. Louis. The only green space he could reach was a tight cloverleaf. The pilot slapped down hard but safe dead-center of one of the leaves (on a slope, and stirred up some grass and dirt). If he'd missed by as little as 75', he'd have shredded traffic.
Sorry to ramble, but I hadn't thought about that in a long time.
