I'm interested in stick welding. Never welded before but have researched a lot. Today I finally bought my first welder, Miller Thunderbolt 225 for $75. Looks kinda rough but it's supposed to work. Can't find the serial number but it has JA-21 on top. I now need a helmet and rods. I'm early 40s, but want to learn the skill as a hobby and fabricate. Like to use the trade when I retire. Any suggestions on a helmet purchase? I'll probably disassembly it a little and clean it up. Any suggestions on how to restore it or what to look for? Thanks in advance!
