Please let me correct my mistake and post my introduction.

My name is Tena and I am an HR Coordinator/Plant Admin for a company in Beecher, IL that is looking for a welder. I know little to nothing about welding but I know that if someone in our area is looking for a job where they can be happy, we might be what you're looking for.

I really don't know what else I should post here. Please feel free to ask a question if there is something you want to know.

What kind of stuff does your company build?

You may want to hang out here for a while. You might get some insight into what kind of welder you really want. Or what to look for in a welder. Many trades tend to draw people of similar personalities. I think it might do us all some good to have you ask some questions from your point of view.

The company I work for builds large plastic insulated containers used for transporting dry ice, pharmaceuticals, foods, etc. What we need welded are aluminum "skirts" which are basically frames with feet that the containers sit in. Another container that we make has a stainless steel liner. Our customer uses them then when they get banged up, they send it back to us and we strip off the plastic and foam outer shell, repair the SS liner and put it into into a new plastic shell. Repairing the liner is the most challenging of the welder's duties. I believe it's 16 or 18 gauge stainless, it's been beat up and its cracked at the seams. These welds need to be "pretty" as well as functional. Occasionally one of our molds needs a weld repair also.

Our biggest challenge is that we are in small-town-USA. We're surrounded by corn fields but for me, that's what I enjoy about working there! I've been in a huge plant in Chicago... nobody knows (or cares) who you are, the traffic to and from work adds another 2 hours to your day and you can be replaced on a whim. Our plant knows you, cares about you and shows it.

Welcome, Tena, and now I understand. Up until now, every job offer ever posted here was from some head-hunter, looking to fill random positions. This always makes me suspicious and a bit overprotective. Now that I know you work directly for the company you're offering the job for, I feel a bit guilty about the inquisition I imposed on you in your job-offer post.

Then again, that's the value of introducing yourself... You'll make some friends who will network this job offer for you and spread it far wider than this site alone.

If you can't answer questions about the wages you offer without being offended, you may not be a "people person" who should be in the HR business.

If apologies lead you to indignation, you have much larger problems.
