Hey yall,
I've been lurking for a while watching Jodie's videos for a couple months now, and I figured it was about time I stop in.
A little background; I'm a union carpenter, from local 1281 and I've been working in the construction trades for around 8 years now. As part of my job, I've spent a lot of time on oilfield jobs building scaffold for fitters and electricians, and I've always been fascinated by welding processes and associated tasks. So, now I'm here looking for advise and information to assist me in the learning process.
Quick question; e-6010 Is a DC+ rod, and I have a DC stick welder, but for some reason my machine won't run a 6010. I don't know why, but even in the owners manual it says that it won't be able to run a 6010. Can anyone explain why this is?

Hey, stickboy, welcome!
You likely have an inverter machine that does not have the correct OCV (Open-circuit voltage) for a cellulosic rod like 6010 or 6011. (Or 7010, 8010, etc.).
This is not at all unusual. Inverter stick machines that CAN do XX10 rods usually have a particular setting specifically for them.

Thanks Steve! I thought it was odd because 6010 says it will run on dc+. To expand on this question, why am I able to run 6011 on dc+. Is there a difference, and if so what is the difference in inverters? Mine runs and igbt inverter if i recall correctly.

6011 has a flux designed to operate on 60 Hz AC. This is more "inverter-friendly" because on AC the effective open-circuit voltage is 70.7% of the DC voltage your inverter produces, and is much closer to the operating range of the rod.stickboy wrote:Thanks Steve! This may be only part of the explanation, but it's the part I understand.
