FNG Saying Howdy

Hello and Merry Christmas to everyone! I have been a lurker here for some time and finally decided to join. I am really impressed with the helpful attitudes that you guys present here. I am an old Tar from the construction world and I have seen my share of arrogance and I don't sense any of that with this site. My short story is that I have always loved to fabricate and restore/rebuild things and have mostly Mig welded. I am an industrial scaffold builder by trade so I have been in the nukes and refineries and power plants and seen lots of cool welding stuff. I do repairs and such out of my garage shop and I seem to be getting busier allthe time. I used to be a fairly capable TIG welder and recently got a smoking deal on a Syncrowave 200 that is absolutely pristine, to reteach myself how to TIG again. I wanted the 250 but don't have the power to run it. Anyway, I have been amazing myself how my skills are coming back. After about 2 hours of doing everything wrong that was possible, I started to get the hang of it and started to get my confidence back. Reading the wealth of knowledge that you gents post here has really helped. I have watched most of Jodys videos and recently learned he lived in Cedartown Ga. My dad (RIP) lived there for 35 years and recently passed away, so I felt an instant connection. I won't bore anyone with much else but I may have to ask a few questions from time to time to get up to speed on TIG again. I am an old pro, which means, I know that I don't ever want to stop learning, and I have never been to proud to ask a question or marvel over someones ingenuity. I think I found my kind of people here.

First off Merry Christmas and welcome to the forum, some of us like to see a first name in order to personalize our responses if you don't mind.

I have yet to see anybody from any line of work come here and not be able to add something and receive something from this forum. Your questions and answers help us all learn something. A lot of the welders here work out in the field and that involves scaffolding more offen than not, that's were you come in. We have knowledge here from many different areas so ask questions about anything and we'll find a well researched and thought out answer.

We joke with each other and from time to time you might end up the butt of the joke so please don't take offense, it's all good natured. Enjoy your stay.

Len, Thanks for the welcome. My name is Jeff, my wife calls me "hey you"...but I will answer to my name hehehe. I just came in from the shop practicing and I have to say I am happy with my progress so far. I sort of forgot the fine nuances of TIG and was playing around with different tungsten grindings and getting a rythym for adding filler. I have gotten pretty good at keeping my electrode out of the weld....Lord knows I been a grinding fool.
I know some of you may have scaffolding questions so ask away. I done just about everything and seen the cocky apprentices build it wrong because they know it all. Work has slowed for the winter so I get more time to play in my shop. I am to the point I want to work from home because those 7/12s really get to me now. By the way, I am near Chicago.

I have a few pics around ...let me see if I can figure out how to post one.....It worked...I do alot of rib competitions so I just finished this tailgate smoker so I don't have to drag my big smoker on wheels around. I just back up the truck and light the far. I have some more stuff but mostly on my phone, Ill have to figure out how to get them on my tablet.

I also cater pig roasts for the local biker clubs so I built this pig smoker last spring....I usually do repair work on trailers and farm/yard equipment so I really don't take a lot of pics of that kind of stuff. I do the stuff no one else wants but I still like it, but every now and then I get to build something cool for myself.
