Hello All, new to the forum but not to welding, though I consider myself a novice at best welder. No training just many years watching my dad weld on the farm and subsequent welding many years on my farm. I'm a mechanical engineer working in the nuclear electric utility business. Two years and 2.5 months until early retirement.

Just purchase a new Miller Bobcat 250 EFI for use on the farm and as backup electrical power for the home.

Inherited an old Alan or Allen AC stick welder from my dad as a well as a cheap Chicago Electric 160T mig welder. It's almost worthless.

Live on a 135 acres grass farm housing registered black angus cattle in west central Arkansas.

Looking forward to learning a great deal from this forum.

Welcome, Philip,

I assume your Bobcat runs on the same fuel you keep for farm equipment (off-road deisel?) so it will serve as backup power for the house for several days...

You're in the right spot to learn anything you want to about welding. We're all about helping, even if your first question is, "How do I turn this thing on?"... ;) Seriously, that's how we treat welding here. If you're sincere, we'll help, whether the question is simple or extremely complicated.

Just a couple welders and a couple of big hammers and torches.
