Aloha all,
I'm Chad from Kauai, I am a welding instructor at a community college on this island. Welding has and will always be a passion of mine, and I have a B.A. in education. It would seem that everything I enjoy is in one package. I like to teach, and I love Welding, so it would be easy to say that I have the perfect job! I have been welding for several years, and my specialty, I would say, is repair welding. Of course, we are located on an island, and certain types of weld training is hard to come by here, so I enjoy reading about your post.

Welcome, Chad,

I envy you your work location... I've been on Oahu and Hawaii, but not Kauai. I also (almost) envy you your job. I get frustrated too easily to teach a skill like welding. It takes brains, and coordination, and neither can really be taught, only honed, if present, to the craft at hand.

This is an excellent resource for "remote learning", should you need a new skill to teach, between Jody's awesome videos and skillset, and the many arts/crafts/trades/skills here on the forum.

There's some talented haoles here...

Steve

Just a couple welders and a couple of big hammers and torches.

Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it.
