Good Afternoon,
I am looking forward to being here. Seems like a way above average group
of great and helpful people. I started welding in 1972 and for a job 1978.
I am also a machinist and all of my welding tied in with that field and
repair. Top fuel drag cars to observatory telescopes, hydroelectric dams
to peddle cars. I am semi retired, but not to many days go buy that I am not
still doing some sort of welding.
Jody has done a FANTASTIC job putting this site up with his tips and tricks,
forum ect.
I just hope I can add a little to this great site.
THANK YOU ALL,
RICK

Welcome Rick,
We're always looking to expand the base of knowledge and experience here.
We get it from every newbie's bad day, and every old hand's experience, and we treat the two the same as far as growing our knowledge. I think that attitude is what makes this place unique.
Expect us to pick your brain...

Welcome, Rick.
I envy you working on top fuel dragsters. I'm a better photographer than I am a welder, and I shot every event at the local drag strip for years. For me, the allure is in the massive power and the craftsmanship that goes into those beasts.
A couple times a year, I had the privilege of a coveted photo pass for the major NHRA events - stood so close on launch that the exhaust would literally push me over. Eyes burning from the fumes, and covered head to foot with sticky soot. Man, those were good times!
You may remember a few years back when Kenny Bernstein was trying his hand at funny cars, hit a center marker and sent a block of foam under John Force's rear wheel... I was amazed at how at those speeds a relatively soft piece of debris was enough to torque the frame into a structural failure.
Cheers,
Richard

Just a couple welders and a couple of big hammers and torches.
