Hello everybody!
Having followed Jody's video's for quite some time now and using his brilliant TIG fingers I thought it was time to sign up here as well..
I'm from The Netherlands (You know.. The funny little country over in yurrup... ) and am pretty much a hobby-welder. It's not my profession.
By trade/training I'm a computer/electronics/network engineer and just generally a nerd (and proud of it ), but I generally like to learn/do as much as I can in various technical areas.
As cars and general mechanical engineering are also a hobbies of mine it was pretty natural to get into welding, especially to fabricate my own bits&pieces. Most of the time I do aluminium (or aluminum ) brackets for various projects and stainless (304 mostly) exhaust parts for my car (a Lotus Elise)
Having done some training courses on various welding techniques I quickly found out that TIG is what I liked best. Still have a lot to learn though, which is where Jody's videos have been brilliant.
No big projects, although at the moment I'm hacking into my welding machine (an Oerlikon CITIG 1500ACDC) to graft a foot pedal onto the machine. The electronics in the machine can handle a foot pedal, it's just that the manufacturer decided to remove that option on these (base) models so I need to rewire and rebuild some parts to make it work.. We'll see..
Anyway.. Hope to learn a lot more here on the forum too!
Bye, Arno.
Welcome to the community! Tell us about yourself, your welding interests, skills, specialties, equipment, etc.
Well it used to be an S2 with a Rover engine, but it's now humming along with a Honda K20 in the back. At around 1800lb it's not really stressing the engine too much
Need to quiet it down for road use/approval though so I'll be squeezing a huge silencer in there. Have found one I can use (originally the OEM silencer from an Exige-S), but now mostly working out how to get all the exhaust pipes routed and squeezed in the tiny space reserved for the exhaust system. It's different enough from the later cars that it won't fit directly..
I do like figuring things out though..
Phew! All those 304 stainless pipes, flanges, flexi's and welding elbows do add up to a nice stack of cash.
