Hey everybody,

My name is Doug, checking in from Boston. I've been watching the welding tips and tricks youtube videos for a long time, and recently got into listening to back episodes of the podcast during my commute to work... heard an episode with moderator Steve from on here talking about some of the repair work he does on stainless and aluminum vacuum trailers that was really interesting so figured I'd go all in and check out the forum.

A little about my background:

I've been welding for about four years, so I'm still pretty new to it relatively speaking.

Most of what I know about welding I learned from an old timer up in New Hampshire... when I was first starting out I asked if he'd be willing to give me a few pointers, and since then he's become a great friend and mentor to me as I've tried to continue to learn.

My first real welding job was at a fence place, mostly mig welding a lot of galvanized and polycoat pipe to make fence gates and plated posts, some ornamental fence panels, stuff like that... dirty job but I learned a lot.

After that I worked for a short time at a waste management equipment company building out dumpster enclosures, chutes, dock extensions, doghouses for compactors, fixing machines... lots of 6011 and torch cutting.

In a kind of weird turn of events I now work in a brewery, where I work mostly with stainless. I make and fix parts for various machines, and do quite a bit of sanitary process pipe (really tubing) in the facility.

I learn something every time I weld, but I’m always bumping up against stuff I don’t know… particularly when it comes to stainless.

Looking forward to digging around into the info on here, having a chance to ask some questions, and maybe even contribute a little here and there if I can.

Doug
