Thought I would share this I did today!
I drilled out one of my old burnt tips and played with stick electrodes with my Lincoln Electric 180 Dual today!

Stick welding is a constant current process - set your desired amps and away you go. Current stays the same for the whole rod, but voltage varies with the arc length.
Mig is a constant voltage process. That means with your attempt at stick welding, as the circuit resistance is constantly changing due the shortening length of the rod, current is also constantly changing according to Ohm's Law. You won't be able to maintain bead profile, penetration etc. Completely useless process.
Just because you can, doesn't mean you should...

Flat out like a lizard drinkin'
a twist on the tig with mig.
both are crap.
not just the issue of being a constant voltage system, but also that the electronics works on a certain resistance. i would speculate that arc rods and mig resistances are somewhat different.i suspect thats why using a tig torch with a stick to arc weld is known to be hard on the machine.

tweak it until it breaks
